Produce
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Produce is a general term for a group of farm-produced goods, generally limited to fruits, vegetables, and sometimes other foods such as nuts and mushrooms. More specifically, the term "produce" often implies that the foods are fresh and generally in the same state as when they were harvested. Produce is the main product sold by greengrocers, farm markets, and fruit markets.
In supermarkets the term produce is also used to refer to the section where fruits and vegetables are kept. Many supermarkets now sell prepared fruits and vegetables, such as fruit salad, platters of crudités, and ready-to-eat salad greens in the produce department as well.
