Pro TV, reaching around 82% of households, operates under the PRO TV SA license, which includes Acasa TV (reaching 73,3% of households), Pro TV International and Pro Cinema TV channels. It is the leading private TV channel, with a national prime time average rating of 6.2% and 16.6% market share (period: january-october 2006).

The channel is the leading commercial TV station in terms of audience and revenues and the most powerful brand in Romania. It covers around 93% of the urban population through its broad TV network (25 local stations).

The channel’s slogan –“ Free your mind!” perfectly describes a dynamic, competitive and original TV content. “Watch and Win!”, PRO TV’s first slogan, was the first slogan used by a TV station in the country.

Year by year, PRO TV imposed new standards in television business, launching original programs such as tabloid news, morning shows, sitcoms, reality shows. It functioned as a real star factory, every year creating the most popular TV anchors in the market.

PRO TV's brand power is based on proactive attitude, distinctive identity, graphics, slogan, and marketing campaigns. Finally, PRO TV has always been a trendsetter, preserving its leading position in all major categories of programs: news, sports, entertainment and movies. In fact, the entire PRO TV business plan is built on top of quality programming and marketing.

Targeting an audience of urban adults from ages 18 to 49 with medium to high incomes, PRO TV’s programming strategy consists of mixing top international series and movies with a wide variety of local productions including news programming, light entertainment and comedy.

PRO TV broadcasts as a free terrestrial station, targeting 18 to 49 year olds of the urban population. Year by year PRO TV conserved its leading position among commercial TV stations, improving its audience market share. From January through October of 2006 PRO TV’s all day market share on its main target (18-49 years old, urban population) was 20.6% and 22.5% in prime time).

[edit] PRO TV’s schedule

  • News – 5 main programs daily
  • Sports: UEFA Champions League, European Handball Championship, boxing and K1 events
  • Entertainment: locally produced sitcoms and series, locally produced entertainment shows (mostly strips over the weekdays).
  • Movies: important programming resource - of the 100 Top Movies in Romania in 2005, 70 were on PRO TV
  • Series: Without A Trace, Nip/Tuck, CSI Miami, The OC.

The breakdown between local and foreign content in Prime Time is 30% (local) to 70% (foreign).

Pro TV usually copies (in an uninspired manner) famous show concepts from foreign networks and adapts them to Romanian reality. While the value of these shows is questionable they usually gain a base of viewers in certain segmants. One can mention: Vacanţa Mare – Comedy Show; "La bloc" – sitcom, "Meseriaşii" – sitcom, "La servici" - sitcom; "Om sărac, om bogat" – sitcom, "Dansez pentru tine".

[edit] PRO TV News programs

PRO TV News are the market leaders in all their slots. With 5 different shows each day, the News program covers all the important events within and outside of Romania. More than 100 experienced journalists operate in Bucharest and the other 25 local stations, looking for the most important and interesting news. The anchor of the main news program, Andreea Esca and the program itself were declared several times, by many Romanian journalists organizations, to be the best News anchor and the best news program in the country.

[edit] La Bloc

The most successful week-day sitcom in Romania. It started as a cheap copy of the American show "Married with Children" and after three years it still is.

[edit] Om sarac, om bogat

Although "Om sărac, om bogat" is the newest sitcom on the tv-market, it has already attracted a significant number of comedy addicts. With a lot of great actors but also promising talents in its cast list, "Om sărac, om bogat" tackles an everlasting topic treated in a hilariously funny manner: the clash between the rich and the poor world. The outcome of this "conflict" reveals unexpected situations not only in the daily lives of these families, but also in their love lives.

[edit] "Dansez pentru tine"

"Dansez pentru tine" is one of the most loved entertainment shows in Romania, having the best host – Stefan Banica Jr. and Iulia Vintur. Every Friday, they bring in front of the audience the most touching situations of people who need help. Eight famous stars are dancing with common people to make their dreams come true.
