[edit] "Swatting" schools

Hi...I was wondering if you might consider the following: If you look at Wikipedia:Watch/schoolwatch/Schools for deletion archive, you will notice that over the past two years a community consensus has emerged favoring keeping articles on bona fide schools for which there is verifiable information available. Also, WP:DP explicitly states that an article being a stub is not, in and of itself, reason for deletion. Finally, at Wikipedia:Schools there is a proposed policy in development--I would suggest we hold off on any other school articles anyone may wish to nominate until that policy is finalized and adopted, unless there is a policy specifically requiring the deletion of the given school--otherwise, we risk removing content that may turn out to be explicitly acceptable according to a broader community consensus. Thanks for considering my thoughts. Kukini 15:34, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

I suspect this is a role account, and so you are probably already aware of the school situation. Assuming you are not, I would like to respond to Kukini's inaccurate statement above. First, Kukini's claim of a consensus is inaccurate most of the school articles that are kept on AfD are kept as a result of no consensus in the AfDs which defaults to keep. Second, what little consensus that could be claimed to exist has been overridden in the last two months as deletions have become more and more common. Third, there are two school proposals at this point not just Wikipedia:Schools but also WP:SCHOOLS3 which is much less inclusive. Fourth, AfDing articles is an excellent way to see what the community actually thinks about a topic. Some of the editors more in favor of school inclusion have tried to say that we should hold off on all AfDs until a consensus has developed- they have an obvious incentive to do so. I'm afraid you've jumped into a bit of a controversial topic. JoshuaZ 05:43, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
As an inclusionist, I stand corrected. Kukini 05:48, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
