Prix Foy

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Prix Foy is a Group 2 flat horse race in France for four-year-old and above thoroughbreds (excluding geldings) run over a distance of 2,400 metres (approximately 1 mile 4 furlongs) at Longchamp Racecourse in September.

It was first run in 1955 as the Prix Henri Foy, named in memory of Henri Foy, a leading figure in French racing who died the previous year. The race has been known by its present shortened title since 1969. It was first run as a Group 2 in 1998, prior to which it was classed as a Group 3.

The race is a trial for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, and takes place three weeks before the big race, at the same meeting as the Prix Niel, an Arc trial for three-year-olds, and the Prix Vermeille, a Group 1 race for fillies.
