Prix Djebel

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Prix Djebel is a Listed flat horse race in France for three-year-old thoroughbred colts and geldings run over a distance of 1,400 metres (approximately 7 furlongs) at Maisons-Laffitte Racecourse in April.

It is a trial race for the Poule d'Essai des Poulains, or its English counterpart, the 2,000 Guineas. It is named after the racehorse Djebel, a champion French racehorse in the early 1940s, and subsequently a leading sire. The equivalent race for fillies is the Prix Imprudence, which is run at the same meeting.

The first and second in 1993, Kingmambo and Zafonic, went on to win the French and English 2,000 Guineas respectively. The only other Prix Djebel runner since 1990 to be similarly successful is Pennekamp, who followed his trial victory with a win at Newmarket in 1995.
