Private Music

Private Music is a record label founded in 1984 by Peter Baumann who had ended a solo career with a minor dance floor hit "Strangers in the Night" (under Baumann). The concept of the Private Music was to have artists do music that they would not normally do, such as experimental and new age music. Artists signed to the label included Yanni, Patrick O'Hearn, Jerry Goodman, Suzanne Ciani, and Baumann's former bandmates Tangerine Dream. It evenutally was distributed by RCA. The label was eventually sold to BMG.

Private Music remains a subsidiary record label of BMG, though most of its current back-catalog releases are compilation albums by Yanni and Patrick O'Hearn under the Windham Hill Records banner.
