a Prison Number is a number given to a prisoner for administrative and identification purposes. it is sometimes tattooed on to identify a prisoner who has escaped.
Famous prison numbers include:
- 46664, the prison number of Nelson Mandela.
- 24601, the prisoner number of Jean Valjean in the musical Les Misérables.
- 37927 was the prison number for Andy Dufresne in the movie The Shawshank Redemption.
- 6655321 was the prison number for Alex DeLarge in the book/movie A Clockwork Orange.
