Prisionera
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Prisionera is a telenovela on Telemundo. It features Gabriela Spanic as Guadalupe, a woman who, 15 years prior to the episodes, was accused of murder, sentenced to jail, and had her child taken from her. Guadalupe escapes prison, seeking to prove her innocence and find her daughter. The daughter, Libertad (Genesis Rodriguez) is being raised by Guadalupe's sister, Milagros, who moved to Florida after the trial. Milagros married a successful businessman, and raised Libertad as her own child.
With the help of Daniel Moncada (Mauricio Islas), the brother of the murder victim, unbeknownst to both him and Guadalupe, Guadalupe escapes Mexico and comes to Florida to find her daughter. Eventually she and Daniel fall in love. Guadelupe believed that Milagros was working as a maid in the mansion, when, in fact, she was married to the owner and had never told Libertad she was not her real mother.
[edit] Production sex scandal
In August 2004 a real life drama embroilled the production of this soap as it was revealed of a relationship between Islas and underaged Genesis Rodriguez. The alleged incident took place at a party thrown by the Telemundo Network management where these two individuals were supposed to engage in a sexual encounter. Islas was sacked from the production, being replaced by another actor, eventually affecting the storyline of the production. Details of backstage bickering, overthrown egoes, innuendoes and firings were detailed ad nauseum providing the Hispanic press a field day with the story.
Eventually, Islas separated from his wife and starred in another soap opera titled "Los Plateados" when the scandal died down. Rodriguez headed out to Los Angeles to be featured in a small role on the daytime drama Days of our Lives airing on NBC. Salacious tongues waged again when this detail came out. Telemundo is wholly owned by NBC and this provided the press with all kinds of speculations about the alleged settlement made with the underaged Rodriguez and Telemundo.
