Printing run

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Printing Run is a term of art used in the printing industry.

  • It effectively designates the set of all the printing products produced by the single set-up of the production equipment.
    • The amount of books or other printed material produced during a single printing run is very important to the publisher because it affects the profit margin. With each such run of the printing press there is associated a set up cost which is distributed equally over the cost of each printed idem. However, associated with each printing run is the maximum capacity. This capacity reflects the limit of the printer's manufacturing costs. The printing run therefore is the single most important factor in determing the profit margin of the printer, and therefore his client to whom the set up cost is passed on.
