Princess Tomohito of Mikasa

Princess Tomohito of Mikasa (寛仁親王妃信子) was born on April 9, 1955. She was born as Nobuko Aso, the third daughter of the late Takakichi Aso. Her father was chairman of Aso Cement Co., her mother Kazuko was the daughter of former prime minister Yoshida Shigeru. Current Foreign Minister Taro Aso is her elder brother.
She studied in England and graduated from Rosslyn House College in 1973. She met and married HIH Prince Tomohito of Mikasa in November 1980 and was created Princess Tomohito of Mikasa. She is also engaged in various welfare-organisations and holds positions as president and vice-president. She has two daughters:
- HIH Princess Akiko, b. 20 December 1981;
- HIH Princess Yohko, b. 25 October 1983.

The princess accompanies her husband on various missions abroad to charity and welfare events, especially those concerning health issues. She also hold positions as president and honorary vice-president of various organisations, such as the Tokyo Jikeikai.
