Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands, Princess of Orange-Nassau (Catharina-Amalia Beatrix Carmen Victoria prinses der Nederlanden, prinses van Oranje-Nassau), (born December 7, 2003, at the Bronovo Hospital in The Hague), is the first child of Crown Prince Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, the Prince of Orange, the heir apparent to the throne of the Netherlands and Princess Máxima of the Netherlands, his spouse. Her name, when anglicised, is rendered as Catherine Amelia Beatrice Carmen Victoria.
By Royal Decree of 25 January 2002, nr. 41 is determined that all children of Prince Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and Princess Maxima will bear the title of Prince (Princess) of the Netherlands and Prince (Princess) of Orange-Nassau. Following the tradition, Princess Amalia can be styled as De Erfprinses (The Hereditary Princess): she will become the Princess of Orange when her father assumes the kingship.
She is second in line to the Dutch throne, and because the Netherlands is under full lineal primogeniture she will not be replaced in the line of succession by any future children of her parents. So, providing her father and grandmother the Queen predecease her or abdicate correspondingly, and she does not marry without permission of Parliament, she will become Queen of the Netherlands. She is 778th in the line of succession to the British Throne as she is a direct descend of King George II's eldest daughter, Anne, Princess Royal. In accordance with the British Act of Settlement of 1701, her father was removed from the line of succession after he married a Roman Catholic.
Princess Amalia lives with her parents and her younger sister Princess Alexia of the Netherlands at Villa 'De Eikenhorst' on the royal estate 'De Horsten' in Wassenaar. She was baptised on June 12, 2004 by Reverend Carel ter Linden in the Grote, or St. Jacob's, Church in The Hague. Her godparents are her uncle Prince Constantijn of the Netherlands, Victoria, Crown Princess of Sweden, Marc ter Haar (her father's friend), Herman-Diederik Tjeenk Willink (Vice-president of the Council of State), Samantha van Welderen Baroness Rengers-Deane (her mother's friend) and her uncle Martín Zorreguieta.
On September 25, it was announced that Princess Máxima was pregnant with her third child.[1] The child is due in the latter half of April 2007.
