Prince Kharis

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Prince Kharis was an American professional wrestler doing a mummy gimmick in Smoky Mountain Wrestling in 1993.

[edit] Career

The wrestler playing the part of Prince Kharis was Rob Mayze. Kharis was managed by Darryl Van Horne, who would later gain greater fame as James Vandenberg in WCW, the Sinister Minister in ECW, and Rev. James Mitchell in TNA. The gimmick was based on a wrestler who had wrestled in the Continental Wrestling Association as "The Mummy" in the 60's and 70's and had feuded with local star Jerry Jarrett. The idea was to recreate the unstoppable monster heel who could tear through smaller babyfaces, but in the year 1993, it was seen as unrealistic and did not draw crowds, and garnered little crowd reaction. SMW even tried to recreate a famous angle that the original Mummy was known for, in which Kharis had his thumb "cut off" and sand poured out. After a short feud with the Dirty White Boy for the SMW heavyweight title, (done to justify the television time spent to create the character) Kharis disappeared from Smoky Mountain Wrestling, and the wrestling landscape, never to be seen again. His impact on the wrestling world could best be described as "minimal." Rob Mayze would never again appear in a significant role in professional wrestling.
