From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Otley Prince Henry's Grammar School Specialist Language College is a secondary school and sixth form in Otley, West Yorkshire. The school teaches boys and girls between the ages of 11 and 18, and has around 1,400 pupils and 90 teachers. Despite the name, Prince Henry's is actually a state comprehensive school rather than a grammar school.

Prince Henry's was founded under Royal Charter from King James I in 1607 and is named after his son Henry Frederick Stuart, Prince of Wales. The school celebrates its 400th birthday in 2007.

Famous ex-pupils include the cabinet maker Thomas Chippendale, Joanna Coles, editor of the American edition of Marie Claire magazine and Liz Blackman, MP For Erewash.

In October 2005 Prince Henry's Grammar School Specialist Language College became the first high school in the City of Leeds to be presented with the prestigious International School Award from the British Council.

In the 2003-2004 season the school rugby union team won the Daily Mail Under 18 Vase.
