Priest River is covered by the West Pend Oreille Volunteer Fire Department, consisting of roughly fifty members and two fire stations, with 18 apparatus. Priest River Fire Department was suspended in July of 2005 due to sexual assault charges against a firefighter within the department [1]. Other faults within the department, including poor book keeping, also contributed to the termination of the department[citation needed]. West Pend Oreille Fire District took over from that point.
Priest River also has a volunteer ambulance, comprised of members trained as EMTs, alongside members with more advanced training.
Police services are largely provided through Bonner County Sheriff Department; however, the city of Priest River also created its own police department in 2006.
