Prince changed his name to this symbol in 1993 following a contractual dispute with his record company. As the symbol cannot be pronounced it is often called the "Love Symbol." However, many in the media chose to refer to him during this time as "The Artist Formerly Known as Prince." He changed his name back to Prince in 2000.
