[edit] Synopsis

Meetings are taking place to bring Cerea into the Republic. In exchange for access to Cerea's resources, the Republic representative promises technology. While the Elders wish to keep their low-tech lives, most of the younger generation, led by off-worlder politician Bron wish to be brought up to speed with the rest of the galaxy. During a pro-tech rally, a misunderstanding causes Ki-Adi-Mundi to be accused of murder. Meanwhile, the Chevin smuggler Ephant Mon has begun scouting resources on the idyllic world.

After Republic technology ironically exonerates Ki-Adi-Mundi, the man fighting its import, he is sent to arrest the true killer. The criminal is his young daughter's boyfriend, Maj-Odo-Nomor, who has inducted her into a youth swoop gang, the "Band of Techrats." Hiding out in the outsider citadel, the children have struck up an unlikely alliance with Chevin smuggler Ephant Mon. Only after a scuffle in the citadel leaves an old friend dead, does the truth finally come to light.

Shortly after the death of the Swoop-gang leader, Skeel, Ephant Mon decides it is time to move there hiding place. It turns out to be none-too-soon, as Ki-Adi-Mundi is hot on his trail. Just as he is attacked by Mon's merc droid, a messenger from the Elders arrives with his lightsaber. While barely escaping with his life, the Jedi Council authorizes to pursue his charges off-world.

After escaping Cerea, Ephant Mon and the Cerean children are quarantined above Tatooine, because of the ravenous Divviks llose on board their ship. Meanwhile, pro-Republic sentiment grows on Cerea in the wake of the investigation. Because of the severity of the situation, Ki-Adi-Mundi is brought out of Bacta healing early and sent to Tatooine to recover the fugitives, with a crew of hastily cobbled together droids.

As Ki-Adi-Mundi fights his way through the ravenous Divviks onboard Ephant Mon's freighter, a smuggling conspiracy on Cerea comes to light. Blackmailed into allowing the smuggler escape with his daughter and her friend, Twin, Ki follows them to the Tatooine surface. After Ephant Mon brings the two girls to Jabba the Hutt as penance for not bringing the promised minerals, Jabba decides to use them as Jedi bait. He has the girls chained to an Ion Attractor during a storm, so as to lure Ki into his trap.

As Jabba's fighters scramble to intercept Ki-Adi-Mundi, his daughter and her companion wait, terrified, for their rescue. Ki uses a clever feint to ditch his ship and go after the girls just as Jabba launches a shuttle full of contraband bound for a Trade Federation rendezvous. After being reunited with his daughter, Ki returns to Cerea, only to find his formerly barren honor-wife pregnant. This arc closes with the appointment of Ki-Adi-Mundi to the Jedi Council.
