[edit] CLUB BACKGROUND:

Presteigne St Andrews Football Club was formed in 1897 and currently run three teams in the world of adult football, (as well as several junior teams), from their home at Llanandras Park in the market town.

The first team play Welsh Senior football in the Spar Mid Wales League, the reserve team play in the Mid Wales League South while the Colts play in Division Three of the Herefordshire Football League. Clubs colours are red and black striped shirts, black shorts and black socks.

The club boasts excellent facilities with tidy dressing rooms and a fine club house which contains, (most importantly!), a bar which allows the players to rehydrate properly after home games. The club's most recent addition is their new floodlights which were used for the first time in 2006 when Welsh Premier League champions TNS came to Presteigne for the opening ceremony and a showpiece match to open the floodlights. The floodlights themselves were officially turned on for the first time by Welsh national manager John Toshack.

Famous former players include former Arsenal, Plymouth, Grimsby and Hereford goalkeeper Rhys Wilmott, Mick Hill [Ipswich & Wales]and Eric Redrobe [Hereford Utd].

The club's main rivals are Knighton Town, who reside just over the hill, and the traditional Christmas and New Year derby matches are always eagerly anticipated.

In recent times the club have proudly been Radnorshire's most successful, and perhaps one of the most entertaining things about the club is the magnificent support from the terraces and stand. Superfans such as Robert Davies, (also a former player he claims!), can always be relied upon for polite words of encouragement to opposing players, while Chairman Alan 'I once held the 100 metres record at John Beddoes School' Randell always does his best to make referees feel welcome.

All in all, the club is an interesting place to play football while local landlords Tim Jones and Andrew Crowe will always provide a warm welcome at The Farmers Inn if visitors wish to extend their stay in the town. Do try and avoid touching the fan in the public bar though, 'Crowie' does not take well to that.
