President's College is the first boarding school in Guyana. The project was officially launched by then-president Forbes Burnham in 1983, and the school opened in 1985. Students were selected from the the top 2% of candidates in the Secondary School School Entrance Examination (SSEE) or Common Entrance.

However, the placement of students at secondary schools in Guyana is being changed, and though some of the brightest students will continue to be placed in traditionally prestigious schools, entrance into President's College or PC will not be based on the school's founding principles.

The President's College campus is at Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara. Since the fire, some students have been housed at different locations off campus. The population of the school is one of the most, if not the most diverse of all the schools in the country because its students come from all over the country.

While the reputation of the school has been affected by allegations of mismanagement and some degree of intolerance, President's College continues to produce students who excel in their respective fields both in Guyana and internationally.

The current principal of President´s College is Ms. Cheryl Trim.
