[edit] About Prescott

Prescott Secondary College is in Prospect, South Australia. The school is near St Helen's Park and is 1 block from Blackfriars Priory School.

The school has two main mottos, "Nothing Without God" and the other "Because Your Child Matters". "Nothing Without God" was originally "Nothing Without Labour" but was changed in 2005 to recognise God as being more important than work.

Transport is also provided for students living either to the south or north by a school run bus service.

There is also a vegetarian canteen in the school that is operated by Mr. Lester Powell and offers a wide range of fine vegetarian foods which comply with Seventh-day Adventist dietary standards.

[edit] History

  • In 1906 the school opened with only 1 class room that was attached to the back of the Prospect Seventh-day Adventist church. Only 15 students attended the school when it first opened.
  • In 1917 the school was shut down and was re-opened in May 1920.
  • In 1936 the school was transferred to its present location in Koonga Avenue, Prospect.
  • From 1936 - 1973 the school functioned as a primary and secondary school, plans for a high school were temporarily suspended due to the events of World War II.
  • In 1952 the primary year levels were divided into two schools. The schools lie north and south of Adelaide.
  • From 1952 - 1976 the school expanded and reached a 100 student mark. The school purchased more land and expanded the school even more with 6 new rooms.
  • 1976 - 2004 the school adopted a multicultural policy and expanded class rooms.

[edit] 2005

The school year commenced in February 2005, with two new teachers added to the staff of Prescott College. Mid year exams were held in late June and the policy was changed from two exams a day to one. The school held its annual school concert in September 2005. The concert was organized by the students and teachers. In 2004 the concert was cancelled because 2 of the teachers were away on holidays, one of which was the organiser for the event.

On December 1, 2005 the school held its annual Speech Night. The students who achieved their MPL (Motivational Performance Level) in Years 8, 9 or 10 were excused from end of year examinations. It was also revealed that the school received the highest number of enrolments in 10 years. End of year examinations commenced on December 6, 2005 and finished on December 9, 2005. The school year officially ended on December 16, 2005.

[edit] 2006

The school year will begin in early February 2006 after student registrations in January. The school will celebrate its 100 year anniversary. Prescott will receive several new staff members and three new rooms, one for art and another a new computer room. Plans on what the third room will be for is currently unknown (originally planned for the subject drama but scrapped in early November 2005). The school will receive extra funding to provide another two class rooms and the student population is expected to hit 170+.

[edit] Future plans

The school is planning of expanding the oval by purchasing land located next to the school and to create several new classrooms to accommodate new students for future years.
