Preprohormone

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A preprohormone is the precursur molecule to a prohormone, which is in turn the precursur to a peptide hormone. It consists of the amino acid chain that is created by the hormone secreting cell, before any changes have been made to it. It contains the hormone itself, signal peptides and some other amino acids. Before the hormone is released from the cell, the signal peptides and other amino acids will be removed.
