Preparing People to Lead Extraordinary Lives

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Preparing People to Lead Extraordinary Lives — along with Chicago's Jesuit University — is the official marketing slogan of Loyola University Chicago in Chicago, Illinois. The school is one of twenty-eight members of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities. The slogan supplements the school's motto Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam which in Latin means "To the greater glory of God."

Defined as Loyola's Promise in 2004 as part of a larger rebranding plan of the school, the slogan harkens the traditional educational and philosophical values of Jesuit education, the Society of Jesus and its founder, Saint Ignatius of Loyola. Michael J. Garanzini, S.J., President of Loyola University of Chicago noted of the new slogan, "We must renew our commitment to the university's Catholic Jesuit mission and identity; understand what makes Loyola a special place to study and work; and be aware of what people think and feel about Loyola."

Each word in the slogan has significant meaning, as defined by Loyola University Chicago:
