Prenton

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Prenton is a suburb of Birkenhead on the Wirral Peninsula. Its main claim to fame is Prenton Park which is the ground of Tranmere Rovers Football Club.

Although the Royal Mail consider Prenton's boundaries to be larger, the Council state that there are two distinct areas: Prenton and Oxton.

The main shopping area is on Woodchurch Road including Sainsbury's and Rightway. However there are many small shops in other locations such as Oxton Village and Borough Road.

Housing is mostly private, and ranges from terraced properties going towards Birkenhead, to large detached villas in the Mountwood conservation area. The roads were laid out mainly in the early part of the 20th century, and much of the housing is from the Edwardian era, with some late Victorian and later property, particularly fairly recent flats and apartments.
