Prelude, Fugue, and Riffs

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Prelude, Fugue, and Riffs is a jazz-in-concert hall composition written by Leonard Bernstein for a jazz ensemble, which features a solo clarinet. It was written in 1949 for Woody Herman's large band, but it was premiered in 1955 by Benny Goodman and in fact Herman never performed the piece. It later was transcribed for clarinet and orchestra by Lukas Foss.

The official newsletter of the Leonard Bernstein Society is named after the piece's title.
