Pregnancy Options Counselling Centre
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Pregnancy Options Counselling Centre is the UK's largest independent provider of specialist family planning counselling. They offer unplanned pregnancy counselling and abortion counselling (including post-abortion counselling) to women and their partners or relatives who may be affected. They consider themselves the only true independent service in this field as they are the only service in the UK not affiliated with, or receiving funding from pro-life crisis pregnancy centers, the NHS or private abortion clinics. They provide a similar service to Planned Parenthood in the USA, but on a private basis.
The Centre was started by Dr Ryan Thomas and Dr Catharine Bates in response to the lack of independent, pro-choice counselling services in the UK and to provide and an alternative to the long waiting lists for counselling and abortion provision on the NHS. They are known in the UK for their heavy criticism of crisis pregnancy centers.
At the last report the Centre employeed a network of over 70 nurses and psychologists.
