Pratts Bottom is a picturesque village in the parish of Chelsfield in the rural surroundings of Sevenoaks, Kent. It is a very small village, consisting of a main road (Rushmore Hill) on which is situated a school, a post office and the Bulls Head pub, two small churches and a few side roads. There is a busy village hall behind the green.
The village of Pratts Bottom is named after George Pratt who lived in Pratts Bottom during the 13th century. A tollgate stood in the village for many years. The turnpike cottage was demolished in the 1920s but is still seen as emblematic of the village, so much so that it is the basis of the recent village sign placed on the green.
Although appearing with an apostrophe on road signs (the village is on the main A21 road from Hastings to London) and Ordnance Survey maps, residents generally don't use the apostrophe in the name.
Completely rural in character, and historically and ceremonially part of Kent, Pratts Bottom is at the very edge of the area administered by the London Borough of Bromley.
