Prague Society for International Cooperation

The Prague Society for International Cooperation is a Central European policy organization located in Prague, the Czech Republic. It is made up of 21 individuals from ten different countries, mostly living and working in the Czech Republic.

The aims of the Society are to promote a network of businessmen, diplomats, politicians and academics, to drive a global approach to business and politics within the newer generation of leaders and thinkers in Central Europe. It also stages confidential events that bring together decision-makers for informal talks.

The idea of the Prague Society for International Cooperation was conceived in the early 1990's after the fall of Communism. However, laws governing the creation of NGO's did not exist in the new democracies of Central Europe. It was not until the mid-90's that the Czech parliament created acts govering the NGO sector. The Prague Society became an official legal entity in June 1999.

Since 2000, the Society has annually presented the Hanno R. Ellenbogen Citizenship Award, which recognizes high achievement in public service to Central and Eastern Europe. The recipients have been: Vladimir Ashkenazy and the Conducting Corps of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra/Lukas Vondracek, Madeleine Albright/Petra Prohaskova, Vaclav Havel/Andrej Dynko, Lord Robertson of Port Ellen/David Hodan, Milos Forman, and King Michael of Romania.
