Power Trip / To Heck and Back was the fifth episode of the first season of the Animated Television series Rocko's Modern Life.

[edit] Power Trip

Rocko is appointed temporary boss of the Comic Book Store, while the real boss, Mr. Smitty, is away. He is advised not to touch the green button of his executive chair. Rocko hires Filburt to run the register while Rocko maintains the office. He gives into temptation and pushes the green button. He gradually begins to morph into Mr. Smitty and tyranically bosses a hapless Filburt around endlessly. Customers riot in the shop when the latest issue of Really Really Big Man fails to make retail. Filburt is kicked out into the street. Just then, Really Really Big Man himself flies into Rocko's office and teaches him the error of his ways. He apologizes to Filburt and together they sell many autographed issues of the latest Big Man comic. After Big Man leaves, Mr. Smitty returns and sees Filburt. He asks Rocko to fire him but refuses. As a result, they are both fired. Really Really Big Man, dressed as his alter-ego, Lois, takes their place, severely injuring Mr. Smitty in the process.

[edit] To Heck and Back

Heffer indulges himself at the Chokey Chicken. When Rocko tries to tell Heff that he needs to start taking less advantage of Rocko's budget, he chokes on a chicken ribcage. He has a near-death experience in Heck, run by a dark-hooded creature called Peaches. He tells Heff that he is in Heck because he has committed the sin of gluttony. He uses an old TV set to show Heff all of the times he's eaten everything in sight, including swallowing a birthday cake whole- even the lit candles. Heff starts sobbing remorsefully. Rocko goes inside Heff's body to retrieve the bone but is trapped inside. He restarts Heff's heart like a lightswitch and is brought back to life. He tells Rocko that things will be different from now on. When he asks if they could stop at another restaurant, Rocko turns into Peaches, scolding him for learning nothing. Then Heff is shown waking up since the whole story was a nightmare. Suddenly, his house turns into Peaches' head. Then Heffer is seen lying in front of his house with his head stuck in a cereal box. Rocko tells him to snap out of it and they both head to Chokey Chicken.

[edit] Trivia

First appearance of Mr. Smitty and Peaches.

This popular (and bizarre) episode was the brainchild of director Mr. Lawrence (aka Doug Lawrence), storyboard artist Robert Scull, and staff writer Martin Olson.
