Powell High School

Powell High School is a high school located at 2136 W. Emory Road in Powell, Tennessee, just north of Knoxville. It is part of the Knox County public school system.

The first high school in Powell was established in 1874 and was called Perkins High School. In 1916, it was renamed for Columbus Powell, the prominent person for whom the Powell railroad depot had been named earlier.[1] The current school was established in 1948. Its most recent renovation was completed in 1985.

Powell High has a total enrollment of 1,139 students (2005-06). The principal is Ken Dunlap. Mark Majors is the current assistant principal.

The school has a total of 45 classrooms along with a football stadium, field and track, softball field, baseball field, football practice field, basketball gymnasium, and is home to the Powell High Sports Complex (Clark Duncan facility and J.D. Jett Gymnasium).

Extracurricular activities include a debate team.
