[edit] Extracurricular activities
Athletics
Poway's athletic teams, the Titans, compete in the Palomar League and the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) San Diego Section.
The school fields teams in 17 sports: gymnastics, baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross country, football, golf, lacrosse, roller hockey, soccer, softball, swim and dive, tennis, track and field, volleyball, water polo, and wrestling.
Poway High's most successful athletic program is the wrestling program, which has won 3 state championships, 57 different CIF division awards, and numerous Palomar League awards.
The Poway High 2006 football team had an up and down season. Struggling to find consistency on defense, the Titans finished the regular season 5-5, and finished 1-4 in the Palomar League, with heartbreaking losses to Torrey Pines (38-27), Rancho Bernardo (48-47), Mt. Carmel, and a tough loss to the eventual Palomar League Champion, La Costa Canyon High School (48-7).
The Titans squezed into the CIF Division I playoffs as the 11th sead. The first meeting was with the 6th ranked Mira Mesa High School. Even though the underdogs, Poway had a convinving victory over Mira Mesa. Then they were headed to Torrey Pines, one of the top three seads. They took a 21-0 half time lead. True to form, the Falcons came back with 21 unanswered points with less than a minute left. Poway Quarterback Donnie McKillop found a receiver with 15 seconds left in the ball game for a touchdown, and they went home winners. THey then headed to LCC Highschool, still the underdogs. Nick Milani had the only touchdown for the Titans, but the defense held them to a field goal.
The Cinderella story was stopped short with a tough loss from unbeaten Carlsbad in the CIF Championship.
Titans' Girls Golf team fields a dominant team the last two years and has won the 2006 CIF State Championship this year as well as CIF Sectional.
Instrumental music
Poway's marching band is called the Emerald Brigade. The Poway High School Symphony Orchestra also contributes to Poway High's musical renown.
