[edit] Merge?

I think the merge should be towards this page. Post and lintel is the more common term, and the common names are generally preferred. Cacophony 08:45, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

Merger sounds good, but I'm not sure about the name. The lintel page has a fine explanation without ever mentioning posts. Davilla 19:35, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
There are actually two merge proposals out, with [[Lintel] and with Trabeated (architecture). Whichever name we go with, all the others can have redirects, and mentions at the beginning of the article. I think folks will be able to get the information they are looking for no matter which term they start with.Lisamh 01:31, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Material

A "Lintel" is a building material, like a brick or cement and if it is to be subsumed it should be subsumed into a section on building materials. "Post and Lintel" is a technique for using building materials and as such, if it is to be subsumed should go into a section on building techniques, or their use in architecture.Omotn 11:02, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

No, to talk of trabeated construction (of which it is suggested the trabeated (architecture) article is moved into) is to talk simply about post and lintel construction - that there is a building component called post and lintel - is irrelevant - the salient point is that an encylopedic reader who might have read an architectural book and wanted to know what "trabeated" was should be redirected to a page which told him/her in the first line it was a synonym for post and lintel construction. --Mcginnly | Natter 00:26, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
