Poste Italiane have often been criticized for the quality of the service offered to citizen. Lost mail, late mail, undelivered mail is not uncommon. Poste Italiane service is below the European Union standard. Several services that are offered to consumers in other countries, like the ability to pay by check in the mail or the home delivery of DVDs, are simply impossible in Italy, as these item would likely be lost or stolen. Italian citizen often realize how bad their postal service is when the move abroad and start to use a modern postal service.
