Posh
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This article is about the adjective, Posh. For other uses, see Posh (disambiguation); for Posh Spice, the wife of David Beckham, see Victoria Beckham.
Posh is an adjective, with a dictionary meaning of "smart or fashionable[1]", "elegant, stylishly luxurious[2]", "spruced up, smart or polished[3]".
[edit] Etymology
Posh is commonly believed to originate from the acronym of "Port Out, Starboard Home", which relates to the cabin position of the most sought after and hence expensive accomodation on ocean liners traveling between Britain and India in the early 20th Century.
Sadly, there is no evidence to support this tale and it is most likely that it is infact a backronym
