[edit] Tasks

Here are some tasks you can do:

Image:Evolution-tasks.png Wikiproject:Rational Skepticism

(edit or discuss this box)

[edit] Comments

Hi, I couldn't figure out how to reply to the message you sent me, so I'm commenting you here. I understand why you deleted my posting about Claude Gabrillo, but I want you to understand that it was not an attack or act of aggression in any way. Claude is my best friend and what may have seemed to be nonsense to you would have made a great deal of sense to him and almost anyone else in our grade at our school. Please allow me to repost my article in peace and if Claude has a problem with it, he can delete it himself. Sorry for any bother I caused you.

[edit] Thanks

Thanks for the welcome and such, its good to know that people are actively encouraging Wikipedia participation with such vigor. PS. Sorry to be so obtuse, but it is you that needs some project art? I'd like to give that a try. Cheers, Jive Monk 08:40, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] working on it

Sorry, I usually get the stub in place, then start adding. I won't let them sit. Thanks, you efforts are appreciated... —Hanuman Das 05:25, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Recent Changes Patrol

Just wanted to let you know that three times in a row just now, you have beat me to a speedy tag or copyvio, heheh. Wikipedia appears to be in good (not to mention, nimble) hands, so i'm calling it a night. Good work. ;) Rockpocket (talk) 06:09, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy delete

Hello? Did you actually go and look at the history for Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons controversy to understand why I removed this former section and started a new sub page for it? Kindly remove your db. Netscott 06:17, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the quick response and db removal. In the future please do proper research on a given article creation (ie: try following the immediate contributions trail of the one who starts the article) before letting those quick fingers take hold. Netscott 06:23, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] speedy delete of a page

I immediately acknowledged and executed changes to the page that I added a link, at your request. This submitted information was considered an attempt to advertise according to the message. However, after researching other pages that fit within this subject matter, other similar services have a multitude of external links to their pages. How is this possible, or allowed. This creates a system that can potentially set websites like mine off balance. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Phooddaniel 08:01, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Jamees Snider

Good afternoon Porge. As you may already know i have been involved in the discussion about the Boxipuss. Since then Dr. Sieve has contacted me as i believe you asked for a third persons view on the matter. However he has not stated it is true, he has stated it as a myth, therefore everyone has a right to have the choice to believe it or not. I do not believe your "Flying Spaghetti Monster" is true however i have not listed your page for deletion. So i expect the same from you. Yours Sincerely. James Snider.

[edit] alex lynn speedy delete

I have contested your speedy deletion. Please check the talk page here: Talk:Alex Lynn Slasher600 01:21, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for responding in such a rational manner. Slasher600 01:24, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy Deletion of "Vixxen"

Thank you for deleting the article, I have no affiliation with the group in any way, the page was merely to prove a point to the band itself, and through your actions I realize I will stick to editing articles or contributing to already existing ones. I also know why Wikipedia is not the place it is purported to be (which is a good thing.) ViceroyInterus 01:35, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Modern Gnosticism article might not be worth spending too much time on

Modern Gnosticism was previously deleted a couple of times, and just keeps being re-instantiated by the author. I have just placed the deleteagain tag on the page, so it should hopefully disappear again within an hour or two. Thanks, Fuzzypeg 04:00, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Barbara Ann page

Hi I saw your "contradict" box that you left at the top of the Barbara Ann page and saw that you said "times don't match". Well the reason why I made the time in the single infobox different to the one on the actual page was because the time stated in the single infobox refers to the overall time of the single ie: the "Barbara Ann/Girl Don't Tell Me" single has a total time of 5 minutes, 42 seconds. Whereas the song Barbara Ann goes for 3 minutes, 23 seconds. The reason I made it like this was because I was unsure of how to show both the total time of the single and the time of Barbara Ann song itself. If you have any better suggestions of how to resolve this problem please let me know before you edit the page. Many thanks -- Sahafan 10:07, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Okay thanks mate... i like your suggestion. Theres still a few pages that have the same thing so yeh if you want to help me update them then that would be of much appreciation, but if not i'll get to work, anyway as I said before, thanks for your help -- Sahafan 12:01, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re Template talk:Cite journal, issue, and Magic quotes

Hello there!

I posted this on Template talk:Cite journal about the optional issue parameter:

According to the code:
}}{{#if:{}
| ({issue})
Issue is actually included as a parameter. If I recall, it renders as (volume(issue)) 142 (4).

Also, I noticed that you recently converted Template:Cite journal, Template:Cite paper and Template:Cite news to use Magic quotes. The manual of style (which I just linked) doesn't specifically say whether or not to use “curly quotes”, (It actually says: However, it appears that historically the majority of Wikipedia articles, and those on the Internet as a whole, follow the latter style.) but it seems to suggest that the majority of articles tend to use straight quotes. The templates are in high use, so you might find that the quotes are converted back to straight quotes by somebody who dislikes the look of them.

If it is changed back, and you wish to use them in the citations in an article you're working on, you could ask somebody (I'd be happy to do it) to add an optional parameter (perhaps "curly=True"), which would change the quotes to curly in a case-by-case basis. :-) Jude (talk, contribs, email) 00:53, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome to Esperanza!

Welcome, Porge, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.

I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee comprised of JoanneB, FireFox and Titoxd. The next set of elections will be in April, we will keep you updated about the results. Because you are a new member, you are not able to vote in these elections, but you will be more than welcome to take part in the elections in June.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Celestianpower by email or talk page or the Esperanza talk page. Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC Tutorial written by one of our members. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Feezo (Talk) 06:23, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

I'd also like to welcome you. — nathanrdotcom (TCW) 08:39, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Templates and curly

Yes, I'm just about to do them. Was testing it out to make sure that it actually worked properly; in theory, it's correct, but in practice... not necessarily. Anyway, you've probably twigged on how it works: Just add "curly=true" as a parameter. You don't even have to say true; 1, or a single letter, will suffice; leaving it blank, however, will leave it turned off. Simple! I hope. ;) Jude (talk, contribs, email) 10:16, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

Wonderful :-) Jude (talk,contribs,email) 10:35, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Request

I was wondering if you would be so kind to unselect the page on the boxipuss for deletion as this page means alot to me and to other wikipedia users. Yours sincerely Dr.Alan Sieve

[edit] policy debates on AfD pages

to say that policy shouldn't be debated on AfD pages is perhaps a bit overly organizationalistic. policy questions are kinda relevant sometimes. tho, admittedly, sometimes people go a bit overboard when thier precious is on the chopping block. Ka-zizzlMc 21:15, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Auckland meetup

Just to let you know that a meetup is planned in Auckland for the 25th of June (see Wikipedia:Meetup/Auckland for more details), and that you are cordially invited. GeorgeStepanek\talk 00:21, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Lynley Dodd

You could propose this article, along with all her books, as a topic for New Zealand Collaboration of the Fortnight. I would assume that many wikipedians who are parents will have copies of the books, and for the rest of us that's a new section of the library to explore. Are there interviews with Dodd available on the web we could mine for information?-gadfium 04:15, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Addicted to Anime

I was away for a few days, came back top find the ATA article slated for deletion, where is the line drawn, c.f. Harmony, California, Brisbane Anime Society, London E10... Alex Law 12:15, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of religions once classed as cults...

Would you consider changing your vote to keep the information if it were merged with List of groups referred to as cults or expanded into a broader topic: "The Transition from Cult to Religion." That might make a very interesting wikipedia article. cairoi 17:33, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Your comments on WP:Complete Bollocks

Thanks for your recent addition to the talk page for Complete Bollocks. I am very pleased you like the article and the spoken word version, which was produced and recorded by myself. The Wikiproject "Spoken Wikipedia" found here is in need of people to head through the wiki and record articles for them. If you wish to join up, please drop onto that page and sign up to join the project. You just need a recording program, such as Audacity 1.2.4 (available as an RPM or a .deb, whichever you use) which will output recorded files in Ogg Vorbis format. Best Wishes, and if you need any help, please get in touch. Regards, Thor Malmjursson 11:26, 2 May 2006 (UTC) Thor's Pet Yack

[edit] Diarrhea Song in NZ

Hello, you posted that The Diarrhea Song is known in New Zealand. Do you know a version? If yes, would you be willing to sing your version over the phone so that I can see if the tune is the same there as it is in the USA?

Thanks!

[edit] May the Force be with you.

Dear Porge,

Thanks for voting on my RFA! I appreciate your faith in me, and was overwhelmed by the positive response to my RFA; for it shows that at least I'm doing something right. :) I've started working to improve myself already, and I hope that next time, things run better, and maybe, just maybe, one day we can bask on the shores of Admintopia together. Thanks and cheers, _-M o P-_ 21:54, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #3

The Administrator Coaching program is a program aimed at preparing Wikipedians for Adminship or helping them understand the intricacies of Wikipedia better. Recently, changes have been made to the requirements of coachees. Please review them before requesting this service.
This would be something like the Welcoming Committee, but for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.
Stressbusters
The Stressbusters are a subset of Esperanza aiming to investigate the causes of stress. New eyes on the situation are always welcome!
Note from the editor
As always, MiszaBot handled this delivery. Thank you! Also, congratulations go to Pschemp, Titoxd and Freakofnurture for being elected in the last elections! An Esperanzial May to all of the readership!
 1. Posting logs of the Esperanza IRC channel are explicitly banned anywhere. Violation of this rule results in deletion and a ban from the channel.
 2. A disclaimer is going to be added to the Esperanza main page. We are humans and, as such, are imperfect.
 3. Various revisions have been made to the Code of Conduct. Please see them, as the proposal is ready to be ratified by the community and enacted. All members will members to have to re-confirm their membership after accepting the Code of Conduct.
 4. Referendums are to be held on whether terms of AC members should be lengthened and whether we should abolish votes full stop.
 5. Admin Coaching reform is agreed upon.

Community Justice Newsletter

Welcome
Previously, various notices regarding Community Justice have gone out to our members; though this is the first actual newsletter. This issue will contain information regarding decisions made on the first meeting, our new council, and more...!

If you wish to unsubscribe to future newsletters, please add your name to Wikipedia:Community Justice/Do Not Spam.

New Council
Following our first elections, a new council has been elected.Computerjoe and Ian13 remain as chairman and chief executive (respectively); while Eddieh, Wiki alf and Xchrisblackx are replaced as councillors by Ilyanep, Osbus and Covington. The Giant Puffin and Pureblade remain as councillors.
Member Conduct
In the last meeting, the conduct of 4 members were discussed. Ethnopunk will be put on probation, supervised by Ian13, if he/she is uncivil during this probation, he/she will be expelled from WP:CJ; the same was decided for Misza13 (voluntarily), and his probation will be supervised by Computerjoe. No action will be taken against Computerjoe.
Barnstar
The Civility Barnstar which our member's have designed has been sent to Barnstar and award proposals. We'd appreciate your feedback!

Also, we are planning to make a Community Justice barnstar to give to hard-working CJ members. If you're a budding designer, consider trying to make it, then post your proposal to WT:CJ!

Name and logo change
There has been no consensus reached regarding changing our name and/or logo neither at WT:CJ nor at WT:CJ/M/1. While suggestions are still welcome, no action will be taken at this time.
Programs
We are going to try to create programs to more actively involve our members. If you have any ideas, please drop a line at WT:CJ. We will try to work with WP:ESP on one of these programs, at some point in the future.
Thanks!
Thank you for your time. If you need anything, feel free to comment at WT:CJ or come into our IRC channel [1].

Computerjoe wishes to extend his thanks to User:Robchurch, a non-member who assisted in making tracker redundant, as well as Misza13 for his continued support and to the whole of this and the previous council.

[edit] Concordia newsletter

Concordia Newsletter

Community Justice is no more. It has been reformed to Concordia. Membership has been transferred.

Concordia is an organization of editors on Wikipedia that strive to encourage civility and fair treatment among all editors in the Wikipedian community, from the Wikignome to the Wikiholic. The project was designed to have a friendly and helpful environment to support any unfortunate Wikipedians that have become victims of incivility, hostility, or continual disrespect.

We currently need help in getting going, and making the community understand our aims. We work for civility. Nothing more, nothing less.

If you have ideas, let us know at our talk page, or on the IRC channel. We aim to spread civility in every way we can.

Should you wish to unsubscribe to future newsletters, please add your name to Wikipedia:Concordia/Do Not Spam.

[edit] A short Esperanzial update

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

Thanks and kind, Esperanzial regards, —Celestianpower háblame 16:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] had trouble with my edits

Is someone against ... erasing my edits to the modern usage section?

[edit] can this be added to cocaine

[edit] Renewed Popularity in the 2000's

Cocaine has become more common in the club scene, in the mid-2000's as an alternative for hipstersinstead of crystal meth or XTC. It’s a milder high and experienced club goers are attracted to it because they feel more in control with the high from cocaine vs. alcohol. It has recently become popular in the 20-30something suburban scene as a safe drug like pot was in the 1970's. Cocaine has few immediate post-high side effects, if taken in moderation, compared to other stimulants, and is complimentary to the recent RedBull-Vodka effect of staying up and being stimulated as long as possible. It also creates the feeling of euphoria similar to X , but a more spiked shorter effect. It has also become a commodity were women, especially swingers, expect "treats" in exchange for sexual favors, and typically blow jobs. However men often have gone on binges instead of use them as " treats" because it lowers male’s ability to have an erections. This has caused the combo of cocaine and Viagra to become popular among sexual active men and even women. Women will often suggest or even supply the Viagra before sexual activity as the numbing effects of cocaine are widely known.

The usage of Cocaine has become more common among married 30-something women in the late 2000's, as women are hit a change point in there lives with kids and family completed. The drug usually is introduced through a new friend in book clubs, neighborhood events and home marketing gatherings. This new user will have sense of entitlement that "they have worked hard, done right and its time to try new things". This sense of new found excitement, the high of cocaine, drives married women to behave this way. Husbands will almost always go along, because if their wives increased sexual desire. But in the end men are driven to abuse of the drug if they control the financials of the household, and therefore the quantity of usage. However after a mild habitual addiction has set in the wives find other means to obtain cocaine through sexual favors, as it sexually stimulates them. They can typically bypass the a money exchange for cocaine in party venues like clubs, concerts and home parties, for sexual favors, most commonly blow jobs, in private places (i.e. bathrooms, private rooms, cars etc.) Cocaine usage has become more common in the upper middle class since the cost is just another expense which can easily be hidden in the a +$100K salary. The damage really done when the casual club going habit becomes out of control and turns instead into a binge activity and it destroys careers and sanity of the mind to stop the usage.

[edit] August Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
 1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
 2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
 3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
 4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
 5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
 6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.

Hello Porge. Due to my inexperience I have inadvertently reverted Image:Chirac-official.jpg to its previous version. [edit] September Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!
What's New?
September elections are upon us! Anyone wishing to be a part of the Advisory Council may list themselves as a candidate from 18 September until 24 September, with the voting taking place from 25 September to 30 September. Those who wish to help with the election staff should also list themselves!
Appreciation Week, a program currently in development, now has its own subpage! Share your good ideas on how to make it awesome there!
The Esperanza front page has been redesigned! Many thanks to all who worked hard on it.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
 1. The proposals page has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
 2. Since the program in development Appretiaion week is getting lots of good ideas, it now has its own subpage.
 3. The September 2006 Council elections will open for nominations on 18 September 2006. The voting will run from 25 September 2006 until 30 September 2006. If you wish to be a candidate or a member of the elections staff, please list yourself!
 4. The new Esperanza front page design has but put up - many thanks to all who worked on it!
 5. TangoTango has written a script for a bot that will list new members of Esperanza, which will help those who welcome new Esperanzains greatly!

 • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
 • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
 • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
 • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
 • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
 • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

[edit] Concordia Newsletter

NEWSLETTER

Concordia is currently trying to relaunch. I, and all the members of the ex-council, wish to welcome new members to the group. We are a group who aim to promote remaining civil, in an environment where messages can easily be interpretated wrongly.

[edit] Help out now!

 • Try and help people remain civil! Talk to them, and help them in any way possible. Do not be afraid to use the talk page.
 • Give people the Civility Barnstar.
 • Make and spread some Wikitokens so people know there are people to help if they want assistance.
 • Add banners or logos to your userpage to show your support.
 • Suggest some ideas! Add 'em to the talk page.

We are a community, so can only work though community contributions and support. It's the helping that counts.

[edit] Decision Making

The council expired one month ago, but due to the current position of the group the current council will remain until the position of the group can be assessed, and whether it would be sensible to keep Concordia going. For most decisions, however, it will be decided by all who choose to partake in discussions. I am trying to relaunch because of the vast amounts of new members we have received, demonstrating that the aims are supported.

If you wish to opt of of further talk-page communications, just let us know here.

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Bolton.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Bolton.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 04:41, 7 January 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Nv8200p talk 04:41, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
