[edit] Dumbledore's Portrait

Appears immediatly after his death in the headmistresses office. This would sugest that as no one would have had the time to "paint" it, not all portraits need have an artist. Of course, I have long thought that there are "special" portraits---the one in the head's office are perhaps created by some more ancient, stronger enchantment, and their "subjects" retain more of their personality and knowlage than other portraits.--VonWoland 06:40, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Then again, maybe it's like in other cases during which someone's portrait is painted. They might have it painted while the person is alive and may only hang it after death, in which case, the paintings in Harry Potter may come to life or become animated. Michael 06:40, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
Remember such ones as Sirius Black's mother? That would be an exception. Michael 04:43, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Actually, Albus Dumbledore's Portrait existed long before he died (I believe). Because, DISC #2 of the"SPECIAL" 2 Disc DVD SET of THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS allows you to take a tour of Dumbledore's office and private quarters. There you will find his own Portrait is sitting right next to his bed. (POP IN THE DVD AND CHK IT OUT).....Cindy Grove
