[edit] Brief History

Portsmouth Pirates are a 5-a-side football team that play in the Ilkley League[1]. In their first season they finished bottom, largely due to inheriting the previous club's points total (0) and goals difference (-39). The next season they finished 5th out of 8, which was a remarkable improvement.

[edit] Players

Their top goalscorer ever was Will Knox, who has since left for rivals Mike Bassett's LA, until Jake fielden surpassed him after seeming to come into his own as a scoring force once Will left. Steve 'Pompey' Waddilove holds the fort in midfield and plays a stunning role as captain as well as scoring many valuable goals. Andy plays centre mid, contributing to many goals. At the back there is any combination of Birdy Hyde, Chris Hall and Joe Gallagher, however Joe and Chris ofetn change positions on a match day due to availablity of other players. Chris often moves to midfield and Joe to attack. In net it is either the amazing Tim Lawless or the inexperienced but rapidly progressing Konrad Csenki, who is known for his reckless throwing out.

Other players to have turned out include Dan Waddilove and Trig

[edit] Famous Matches

Possibly their best ever victory was against The Firm in the last game of the 2006 Winter Season (their second). A win was needed to finish above MBLA and also avoid finishing bottom. The game was close all the way through, with neither side able to make a breakthrough. Then in the last minute Joe Gallagher popped up to make it 9-8 and take the three points. Even more amazingly than this Jake Fielden scored a double hat-trick.
