Portorož Airport (Slovenian: Letališče Portorož) (IATA: POW, ICAO: LJPZ), the third international airport in Slovenia, is located near the village of Sečovlje, 6 km south of Portorož, a few hundred metres from the Croatian border. Besides Portorož, the airport has a number of tourist destinations in the vicinity, including Piran, Izola, Koper in Slovenia, Trieste in Italy and Umag in Croatia.
The airport is intended for passenger transport, sport, tourist and business flights. It lies at two metres above sea level, the runway measures 1200 × 30 metres, soon to be expanded. The whole airport is scheduled to undergo renovation soon.
The airport is one of the bases of Solinair.
[edit] Airline Operations
It was recently hinted by the Slovenian National Tourism Organization[1] that first scheduled passenger flights can be expected at the airport from mid-June. A subsequent investigation has revealed that Jat Airways will commence flights from Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport. This will be a major milestone for Portorož Airport that has not seen regular passenger flights since 1990.
