Portobello High School

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Portobello High School is a large secondary school in the east of Edinburgh, (despite the name) just outside of the town, Portobello. With 1450 pupils it is the largest school in Edinburgh, and Scotland. The building is also one of the largest buildings in Edinburgh, however it is in a state of desrepair and is nominated for demolition. Portobello High School's current headteacher is Ms. Peigi MacArthur.

[edit] Building

The building of Portobello High School, is very tall at 8 floors (not including the ground) with an extension that continues the first 2 floors, round 90 degrees. For many years now, this building has been condemned and will soon be replaced. There are several locations planned for the new school, this is an issue that has caused much controversy.

[edit] EcoSchool

Portobello High School is considered an EcoSchool and has won two consecutive Green Flag awards in 2003 and 2005. It is hoped that they will win a third, permanent flag in 2007.
