Portal of Evil (ISBN 0-14-032839-4) is a single player roleplaying book, written by Peter Darvill-Evans and illustrated by Allan Langford and originally published in 1989. The book is part of Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone's Fighting Fantasy series, numbered 37 in the original Puffin printing and not yet included in the recent Wizard reissuing. As with most of the series, the story is divided into 400 sections, with the final section forming the only successful conclusion to the story.
The story, like many other Fighting Fantasy novels, is set in the world of Titan, on the continent of Khul. The area surrounding the Cloudhigh Mountains has been beset with gold fever after several successful strikes, but the digging has uncovered an ancient evil alongside the precious metal. The player must locate the source of the strange monsters which have besieged the region, the titular portal, and travel through it in order to put an end to the threat.
