Port Huron Flags

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Port Huron Flags are a professional ice hockey team located in Port Huron, Michigan. They are a member of the United Hockey League. The Flags began play in 2005 after the Port Huron Beacons left for Roanoke, Virginia and became the Roanoke Valley Vipers. They now play in the McMorran Arena.

The Flags are led by Coach Stan Drulia. The Flags' mascot is a bear named Slapshot, the winner of a vote by fans on the new mascot's name. True to his name, Slapshot bears a pair of taped glasses, much like the Hanson Brothers wear in the movie Slap Shot.

A team by the name Port Huron Flags competed in the International Hockey League between the 1961 and 1981 seasons. That team won the International Hockey League title in 1966, 1971, and 1972.
