[edit] History

The town was founded by Sir Watson Hughes way back in 1863. He later went on to be a founder of the University of Adelaide.

[edit] Town Facilities

The town has many facilities close by, with a Foodland shopping centre just down the road in Moonta. There is also a Hotel, Caravan park, Jetty, Boat ramp and General store, which accounts for everything you need for a peaceful holiday.

[edit] Activities

Port Hughes has one of the safest beaches around, which have a beautiful blue-green colour, which makes it a perfect place for swimming. The jetty provides lots of fish, or if you feel like it, you can walk out into the water and catch plenty of fish. There are also many water sports and other charters that run with the boat ramp.

[edit] Development

In recent years, the town has had a lot of talk about new developments, with a lot of clear spaces. The Patricks Cove and Patricks View developments are going along nicely, with about 10 allotments left in Patricks Cove, and Stage 2 started of Patricks Cove.

There has also been talk recently of a new development, which over several stages would have a theme park, PGA standard golf course, Hotel, and over 1000 new allotments.
