Talk:Pony Club
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pony Club is great! But how come this article just cuts off at the end???
This article is kind of bad. I'm going to tag it for attention, but it needs to be completely redone- There are Pony Club organizations in at least 5 other countries, I'm pretty sure more. There should be individual pages for each country's organization, as they often have wildly different systems and rules- as evidenced by the fact that Americans who make the USPC International Games team have to learn completely new games for the international competition. The writing in this article also just stinks, and often feels like it's pulled from somewhere else.
So, for the page Pony Club, there should be some sort of basic explination of what Pony Club is, and some overall history (originated in Britain, etc). From that, there should be a list of national pony club organizations, and international pony club events/organizations. Then, obviously, each national organization will need it's own page.
So that's what I see happening here. Since these are such major changes, I'll leave this message up for 2 days before making them. I hope that's okay.

[edit] Be Bold!
I say go ahead and start. I did a major rewrite of an article on a topic I know pretty well, and it was rather daunting, taking several weeks to really get all the bugs worked out, yet trying to stay true to the good things others had done. Just be respectful and keep the best ideas from the work of others, but I say GO FOR IT! <smile> Montanabw 03:28, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
- I did it! or at least, I've started it. The USPC and NZPCA pages are just pastes of what was originally on this page, but I'll definitely try to work on the USPC one- I don't know much about NZPCA. Thanks for the encouragement! Nicole Javaly 23:00, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

- Personally, I'd "park" all the old stuff you cut some place, either at the end of the article before the external links, or perhaps on this page under a subheading like "Temporary home" Some of it wasn't too bad and may be worth reincorporating back into the article as you go. Just kept hacking away at it section by section and don't totally toss what others have done until you have either rewritten it or have decided for sure it wasn't needed somewhere.
- Don't worry about not knowing about certain things. Do a good job with what you DO know/ Just create the basic info for what you don't know well and if someone else wants to expand, they will. Montanabw 05:34, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

- Most of the stuff that was on this page before has now been moved to two new pages, United States Pony Clubs and the New Zealand Pony Club Association. I didn't change the text much at all for either of those two- the information there was pretty solid. I just wanted the page to reflect the fact that Pony Club isn't an international organization, just a loose grouping of several different national ones- something the page in its previous format wasn't conveying. I hope this clears it up, and I really hope people start to add stuff to this page- there's a lot of information on Pony Club history but most of it is in books and archives that I currently don't have access to :-( Nicole Javaly 05:24, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Good idea!
Hi have found some sources for the USPC ratings, and some more stuff on the Nz pcs. good luck :-)
- I don't know much about this but it sounds as though the general structure of tests should be copied here from USPC. Conrad.Irwin 19:04, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
