Ponta Preta (Southern Sal)

Ponta Preta (Portuguese meaning the black cape, Capeverdean Crioulo: Punta Preta, São Vicente: Ponta Preta) is a point located in the southwest of the island of Sal in Cape Verde. Distance is approximately 2 km west of the island's second largest community named Santa Maria. The point is features a lighthouse, its nearest promontory is less than 500 m away.

The point are surrounded by rocky ledges with beach sand. It is accessed with a country road linking with the town and the rest of the island. A mountain covers the southeastern part while the rest of the land surrounding it are flat. The urban area of Santa Maria lies further east

The point offers a view of the Atlantic Ocean as well as the southern portion of the island including Serra Negra, there is some blockage by the southern plain but the southwestern part can be seen. The island of Boa Vista can rarely be seen.
