Pons Aemilius
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Pons Aemilius (today Ponte Rotto) is the oldest Roman stone bridge in Rome, Italy. Initially constructed in 179 BC with stone pillars and a wooden superstructure, the Tiber bridge was fitted in 142 BC wholly with stone arches. The single arch left today in mid-river has lent the bridge also the name Ponte rotto ('Broken bridge').
