Pom-poms are a type of goldfish that have fleshy nasal lobes (enlargements of the nasal septa) that are greatly enlarged into pom-pom like tufts. A good specimen will have a smooth well-rounded profile similar to that of the fantail, with large, well-matched pom-poms. The tail and anal fins should be double and separate all the way to the body. Pompoms are a rarity and are hard to find in aquatic stores. The traditional Pompom has no dorsal fin, but later 'western' varieties do have a dorsal fin. They are hardy fishes and compatible with other fancy goldfish. They are however, not suited to outdoor ponds, and should ideally be kept in an aquarium in temperatures no lower than 55 degrees fahrenheit. Pom-poms can be chocolate, gold, calico, red and white colored.
Like Fantails they grow to a maximum length of 6 - 7 inches.
