This image is in fact a coats of arms of the Dukedom of Pomerania (one of so called teritorial state in Roman Empire) that means it was used in and for Western Pomerania. Eastern Pomerania (Voyevodship of Pomerania) had in the same period a one-field shield: red griffin in white field or black griffin in yellow field.
