[edit] First Party, first referendum and first president
Question: I have informations that the first political party was the Peoples Muthagadhim party, formed in 1951, that the people's referendum was announced in 1952, and in January 1953 the republic was announced and Al Amir Mohamed Amin was sworn in as the first president, killed 7 month later. But the history section starts with 1968. CoYep 17:26, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
From the official site of the Maldivian government [1] "The First Republic was declared in 1953 with Mohammad Amin Didi as the President. President Mohammad Amin Didi made invaluable contributions in all areas of Maldivian life. The presidency of Amin, however, was short lived. A monarchy was reestablished. It was a Constitutional Monarchy with Sultan Mohammad Farid on the throne." What do you think about including that information into the history section? CoYep 11:49, 7 February 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah Muthagadhim party was formed before Second Republic (Maldive Islands) and therefore, I think, cannot be first political party? --Oblivious 04:27, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
