Talk:Politicized issue

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I think this page clearly and (mostly) fairly lays out what "Politicized issues" are. It utilizes abortion to demonstrate the polarization in terminology between differing camps. i.e. "pro-choice" vs "pro-life", etc.

I am however concerned with the NPOV angle of one specific statement: "An example of this would be abortion which has traditionally been a medical issue between doctor and patient, but has become a legal and political issue."

While there are many countries today where abortion is no longer politicized and such a doctor-patient tradition exists, I am aware of no wide spread reversal of that. That is, where it USED to be legal and "traditional" and THEN became politicized (as that statement implies).

At least in the Western world, abortion was extremely politicized during the transition from illegal to legal (where such a transition occured). Of course in many countries that diminished over time it is no longer as politicized as it currently is in the United States or Ireland.

Thoughts anybody?

This page could also do with additional non-abortion examples. I will research some. Aecarol 23:53, 26 May 2004 (UTC)
