Portal talk:Politics/Archive1

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I like this better. It is good to be able to gain access to stuff without having to scroll long distances. You are doing good work, let me know if you need any help.

[edit] Political colours

Even if this portal is just a newborn, maybe this is the best place to ask how feels responsible for "political colours", i.e. templates like Template:German politics/party colours/Left -- and where one could try to find a standard that is generally accepted (my problems are a green for the Greens that is not green enough, and different colours used in Wikipedia and in German media for the Left Party). -- till we | Talk 20:33, 26 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Almost there!

Three days on from its inception, I'm fairly happy with how the Portal looks for now. Obviously, it will continue to evolve - at the moment, the most pressing development is introducing a navigational aid. This could either be a well organised list of categories to help users go straight to the article they want to, and/or a list of 'showcase articles' (see Portal:Cricket - the list there contains plenty for users to browse through), though I'm not sure that an area as large as politics can be showcased with a selection of articles small enough to fit in one box.

Rolling changes are necessary though:

  • News and Current Events - at least every other day
  • Featured article, biography and picture - every Sunday (doesn't have to have official featured status, but should be of similar quality)
  • Useful Links - if other Portals and WikiProjects are formed

I think that's it for now. Once again, many thanks to all those already on board. Hopefully the dust will settle in the next two weeks and the Project can get going with its tasks. --HighHopes (T)⋅(+)(C)(E) 15:52, 27 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Fed up

I'm fed up with Wikipedia - it's essentially 'run' by this ghastly little clan of people who lick each others' butts for sheer pleasure - so do what the fuck you want to this Portal. Not that you were stopped from this before, but basically, I don't give a shit how you edit it. --HighHopes 21:51, 15 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Plato?

Why's plato on the front page? Would Aristotle or perhaps Rawls or Cicero be more logical? Migdejong 08:59, 28 December 2005 (UTC)

Cos Plato wrote the The Republic. Wasn't that obvious? He's a damn sight more influential than Rawls. --Oh Dear 01:36, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Non mentioned Politics articles

I think there will be a number of these, as Wikipedia can be quite spread and so forth. So far I have only noticed: Electoral reform. It might also be an idea to have politics by country links. --LeftyG 03:21, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Updates

I've updated all the selected stuff. Did someone get fussy about calling it 'featured'? Either way, I've changed 'selected content' to 'featured content' cos all content listed there is actually featured. --Purposeful 09:47, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Maintenance

By the way, I'm happy to maintain this Portal - I notice that it failed because there was no sign of being maintained, so I'll take that on. Although anyone willing to add news from their own corner of the world is more than encouraged to. --Purposeful 11:11, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Selected Article

Two things 1.) Recently featured currently list Batman and Spacecraft propulsion. I am hoping that these were not actually featured on the politics portal. Can this list be changed? 2.) Nominations? Is there a place for them, or what? --LeftyG 22:52, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Main page

Currently there is a poll at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Usability/Main Page/Draft/Portal poll for which portals should have a link on the main page. Vote for POLITICS. --GeLuxe 08:31, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Selected article

Didn't change in ages, so I changed it to my passion/geek speciality - Electoral reform in New Zealand. If you disagree, then change it to something other than Hugo Chavez!!! --Midnighttonight 08:19, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
