Polytechnic University of Catalonia

The Polytechnic University of Catalonia (Catalan: Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Spanish: Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña) is one of the largest engineering universities in Spain.

It was created in 1968 after the fusion of several technical schools. In 2006 it has 22 schools in Catalonia located at the cities of Barcelona, Castelldefels, Manresa, Sant Cugat del Vallès, Terrassa and Vilanova i la Geltrú. UPC has about 35,000 students and 2,500 teachers and researchers.

It is also known for hosting Europe's most powerful supercomputer (year 2006), the MareNostrum.
