Polymorph was the third episode to air in the third series of Red Dwarf.
[edit] Synopsis
Holly detects a non-human life-form aboard ship. The crew are sceptical (the last time this happened, it was one of Lister's socks), but for once she is right. A genetic mutant that came out of a mysterious pod in space which can change its shape into anything, be it animal, vegetable or mineral has invaded Red Dwarf, and it begins to feed on the emotions of the crew. Attacking Lister as a shami kebab and sucking out his fear, it goes on to feast on Cat's vanity, Kryten's guilt and finally Rimmer's anger before the emotionally crippled Dwarfers can meet it in the final confrontation in the cargo hold. After they destroy it we find out that the pod the polymorph came out of first contains two!
[edit] Trivia
- This episode was the only episode to feature a warning about the episode's content immediately prior to airing. This warning is preserved in the DVD release.
- Polymorph was also the first Red Dwarf episode to receive a '15' classification from the BBFC censorship body - not due to excessive gore and violence, rather Lister's famous line "let's get out there and twat it!" - a phrase immortalised in a Red Dwarf T-shirt.
- Actor Chris Barrie (Rimmer) had to wait over 10 minutes to deliver his punchline in the Kryten Lister boxershort scene - the audience's laughter made it impossible for him to be heard.
